Below is a synthesis of Old Testament chronology. The synthesis comprises a single-sheet (up to legal size [8.5×14”]) chronological chart of the major events and players of the historical books 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 and 2 Chronicles (including the postexilic period). The chart includes specific rulers of Israel and Judah that are good to know, not necessarily all the kings, key rulers of the foreign powers, key characters such as certain prophets (Elijah, Elisha, and Micaiah), and postexilic leaders (Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther), and key dates.
Appearance and readability are very important when it comes to charts. Obviously, the accuracy of the data is most important. However, if a chart is not readable and blends all together, no one will read it. Because of the constraints with space as well as the amount of information that is required to convey, this was a tall task. I think there are ways I could have improved the readability, especially when it comes to the foreign nations section. But since I am not a professional chart maker, this was the best I could come up with. A list of references I used for the project is included. This chart should can be used and will be helpful for your study on the Old Testament Prophets.
